WFAN was organized 21 years ago by women who realized that often times women were not involved in conversations about the farmland they owned.  Women are often more comfortable in a discussion setting, where they can see each of their peers.  These Women Caring for the LandSM “learning circles” are designed specifically for that type of sharing.

 

Over the past 10 years, WFAN has held more than 240 successful meetings focused on conservation topics that have given women knowledge and confidence in managing and caring for their land.  We’ve found women who have been less involved in agriculture, maybe new inheritors of land, are especially appreciative of our format.  For many it's their first meeting about farming and they want to have a voice at the table. We want to emphasize that every woman landowner - no matter what type of management or acreage is involved - is welcome at the table in our discussions.

You’ll also see eye-opening, dramatic demonstrations on soil quality by local professional women conservationists. These dramatic looks at how healthy soils perform have been the “aha” moments that have convinced many landowners to work with their tenants to employ soil health practices that will not only protect their soils, they regenerate their soils! And in the afternoon, you’ll get your hands dirty (if you want to) when we make a quick visit to a farm to see healthy soils close up.
